At Historicus, Inc., our work addresses an important question: How can new media tools enhance and extend the best teaching, research, and public exhibitions in the arts and humanities? For our clients—among whom are publishers, museums, libraries, and history professors and researchers—we provide a unique combination of scholarly expertise, technical skill, and pedagogical inventiveness that weds the fruits of professional research with the most promising new technologies.
Our projects include: innovative primary source archives for McGraw-Hill, which bring authentic historical research to classrooms and lecture halls; a state-of-the-art 3-D map interface that helps researchers of urban architecture and history access the collections of Manhattan’s Skyscraper Museum; and an innovative online census of cultural landmarks in New York City for the Place Matters project. We also serve as technology partners for scholars at the University of New Hampshire and Columbia University, building novel collections of research materials and involving secondary-school educators in the latest developments in historical scholarship.
In all these activities, we seek to yoke technology to the needs and purposes of learning institutions, scholars, and educators, using databases and interactive interfaces to gather and disseminate better their cultural and intellectual wealth. When traditional methods fall short, we create novel solutions such as interactive maps, simulations, and animations to bring history to life for an ever-wider audience.
Our curiosity and creativity has only grown since the company’s founding, and we welcome the chance to discuss your ideas for fresh narratives in new media.
